The Bear Hug
Published 30 September 2019
In a touching moment on Monday, September 30, 2019, Donald Trump embraced a wounded and wheel-chair bound veteran from Afghanistan who sang ‘God Bless America’ at the ceremony to honor the new incoming Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
U.S. Army Captain Luis Avila sang the patriotic hymn at the ceremony to honor the new incoming chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley.
Trump bobbed his head along with the music and gave Avila a thumb’s up.
When Avila finished singing, Trump gave him and his wife a big bear hug.
Avila was wounded by an IED in Afghanistan in 2011.
Avila suffered two strokes, two heart attacks, his left leg was amputated and he had a severe lack of oxygen – injuries that left him almost completely paralyzed.
He has used music therapy in his recovery.
